Bequests

Bequests of all sizes are encouraged as a way to provide for the Foundation at a later date. Gifts by will (or living trust) may be for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the total estate, or the remainder of the estate after debts, taxes and other bequests have been paid. You may designate a particular purpose, but the needs of the Foundation do change over time. Thus the most valuable bequest is one that can be applied where the need is greatest. One example of language used to create a bequest is:

I give, devise and bequeath to the Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation, a Washington, DC non-profit, charitable organization, (insert dollar amount, percentage (%) of estate, or exact description of property to be devised).

If you include the Foundation in your will, we encourage you to send a copy of the section relating to the gift to:

Women's Memorial
Office of Planned Gifts
200 N. Glebe Rd., Suite 400
Arlington, VA 22203

This allows us to recognize and thank you, as well as review the language of the will or living trust in case there are restrictions or ambiguities that would make it difficult for the Foundation to carry out your wishes. Wills or any portions thereof that are furnished to the Foundation are held in strictest confidence. Public recognition of bequest intentions is given only with your permission.

For information on bequests, contact Ann Marie Sharratt, the Memorial Foundation's Executive Director, at 703-533-1155, 800-222-2294 or by e-mailing execdir@womensmemorial.org.
