From saboteurs on Revolutionary War battlefields to Marines leading platoons in today’s war in Iraq, America’s military women have stood among the ranks of freedom’s defenders for nearly 230 years. Through the centuries and in every conflict, women stepped forward to serve and even die for their country, and with their service, changed America and changed the face of freedom’s defenders.
The Women's Memorial and its partners, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and AMVETS (American Veterans) are proud to showcase America’s servicewomen with the release of Faces of Freedom: Freedom’s defenders … sometimes have a woman’s face, our 2005 Women’s History Month poster. Supporting the national Women's History Month theme, Women Change America, this poster features the names of more than 30,000 women who have served or are serving today, shaded and colorized to create a collage of America's servicewomen throughout the centuries. Names and faces unite in a very powerful visual representation of the nearly 2.5 million women who have served in America's defense. To learn more about the women whose pictures are featured, simply roll your mouse over their images. Celebrate Women's History Month by paying tribute to the women featured in the poster or other military women, living or deceased. A particularly lasting and visible tribute is a contribution to the Memorial in their honor. Just use the donation section of the multi-purpose Registration form, which can be found in the Membership section of this Web site.
You can also help commemorate Women's History Month by displaying this innovative poster. It's a great way to encourage discussion about women's roles, past, present and future, and to stimulate pride in America's military women. Visit our online Gift Shop today to order your copy.
