Press Kit
Our online Press Kit offers timelines, statistics, and other facts about women in the military and about the Memorial itself.Highlights in the History of Military Women is a timeline detailing the distinguished history of America's servicewomen from the American Revolution to 2002.
Statistics on Women in the Military provides numbers of women serving on Active Duty and in the Reserve and Guard as well as historical statistical information including women prisoners of war and women in military conflicts.
Did you know ... highlights many little-known facts about women in the military, including the story of Margaret Corbin, dubbed "Captain Molly," who became the first American woman to receive a military pension for her service in the American Revolution as well as SGT Heather Lynn Johnsen who became the first woman to earn the badge for guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns in March 1996.
Feature Story Archive
Our Feature Story Archive offers a collection of news stories related to military women past and present.Woman Soldier Awarded Silver Star recounts the war-time experience of a servicewoman who was awarded the Silver Star for action against an armed enemy in Iraq, making her the first woman since World War II to receive one of the nation's highest awards for valor.
CAPT Joy Bright Hancock: "Lady in the Navy" uncovers the story of one of the first women ever to serve in the Navy as a World War I Yeomen (F).
USMC Names 1st Woman to Command a Recruit Depot looks at the history-making day when the Marine Corps welcomed a new commander of its Recruit Depot in San Diego-making Brig. Gen. Angela Salinas the first woman in Marine Corps history to lead one of its two recruit training facilities.
Lady Thunderbird tells the story of a 5-year-old girl who stood in awe of an F-4 Phantom fighter jet at an air show in 1979 and 26 years later became the first woman demonstration pilot in the Thunderbirds' 52-year history and the first on any US military high performance jet team.
USCG Makes History: 1st Ever Woman Vice Commandant highlights the story of VADM Vivien Crea who recently became the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard, making her the first woman ever to serve as a deputy service chief in any of the US Armed Forces.
