World War II Parachute Rigger's Kit
Steps to Pack a Parachute
Day 1:
• Hang parachute in drying loft for 24 hours.
• Inspect harness and hardware.
• Inspect pack housing.
Day 2:
• Lay parachute on packing table and inspect the canopy for rips, tears, stains and serial number.
• Fold canopy in thirds lengthwise, keeping 1⁄2 of shroud lines in each side of guide tool.
• Using hook, pull the shroud lines through the loops on the exposed surface of pack, in neat, consecutive sequence.
• Fold canopy on top of shroud lines in accordion style to conform to the size of parachute pack.
• Fold up grommet and cone flaps on opposite sides of pack and secure with temporary pins.
• Inspect automatic pilot chute, collapse it and insert between flaps under cone flap.
• Neatly close remaining sides of pack with short bar tool.
• Carefully insert rip cord pins by removing temporary pins.
• Check hand pull release.
• Sign and date packing record book.
