Resources–Useful Links
Excellent primary and secondary source Web sites exist on the history of women's military service in America. These sites are published by official organizations and institutions, veterans groups, and individuals concerned with collecting and disseminating information about specific time periods, organizations and individuals.
In addition, state and local historical societies and archives and college and university libraries offer rich sources of the historical record.

Department of DefenseDefenseLINK is the official site of the US Department of Defense (DoD) and includes DoD press releases, news articles and photos including the most recent information and photos about the military—all services.
Defense of Defense (DoD) Imagery Website includes still photography, motion picture film, CD-Rom collections and other multi-media imagery of operations and activities throughout the DoD.
DefenseLink Web Special Reports features DoD articles covering topics such as Women’s History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, African-American History Month, etc.
Army/Army Nurse CorpsUS Army Center of Military History includes historical essays, documents and photographs of US Army women's history with special focus on US Army nurses.

US Army Military History Institute (USAMHI) is an institute of the US Army Heritage and Education Center that documents the history of the US Army and military history. The collection includes books, rare books, periodicals, photographs, manuscripts (diaries, letters, memoirs), military publications and manuals, maps, and oral histories.
US Army Women's Museum collects, preserves, researches, exhibits and interprets historically significant properties related to service of women across all branches and organizations of the US Army from inception to present day.

Air Force/Air Force Nurse Corps/WASPAir Force: Air Force History includes comprehensive links to a variety of sites that include the history of women in the US Air Force.
National Museum of the US Air Force is the nation's largest museum of the history of the Air Force, including women.
WASP on the Web is dedicated to sharing the history of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II, and shining a light on the inspirational stories of their lives before, during and after WWII. The first women in history trained to fly American military aircraft, this select group of young women pilots became pioneers, heroes and role models.
National WASP WWII Museum seeks to educate and inspire generations with the history of the Women Airforce Service Pilots.Women in Aviation and Space History offers biographical sketches of pioneering women in aviation and space through the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Aeronautics Division.
Coast GuardUS Coast Guard Historian's Office includes articles about women in the Coast Guard, women lighthouse keepers and the history of the Women's Reserve in WWII, as well as photographs, a timeline and a bibliography.

The American Red Cross Museum is a comprehensive compendium of the history of women who served with the US Armed Forces throughout our history.
Vietnam Women's Memorial Project includes a history of the memorial and of women who served.
Vietnam War Commemoration is the official web site for the DoD commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, including an interactive timeline with historical information about the war and servicewomen’s involvement, and photographs and videos.
Korean War Commemoration is the web site for the DoD commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War and includes history of the war, the women who served, and links to other helpful resources.
Women Veterans Historical Project (WVHP) documents and recognizes the contributions of women in the military, particularly those who served during WWII, but also those women who served in earlier and later times. Established in 1998 at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, the WVHP also works to educate the general public on the contributions of military women.
National Collaborative for Women's History Sites (NCWHS) supports and promotes the preservation and interpretation of sites and locales that bear witness to women's participation in American life. The Collaborative makes women's contributions to history visible so that all women's experiences and potential are fully valued.
Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and improvement of oral history. It responds to the needs of those actively practicing or otherwise interested in oral history in the Mid-Atlantic region. OHMAR provides a forum for sharing information about the techniques and application of oral history, promotes standards of quality among practitioners, and assists those interested in the subject. Members include public and academic historians, librarians, archivists, teachers, folklorists and independent researchers.
Oral History Association (OHA) established in 1966, seeks to bring together all persons interested in oral history as a way of collecting human memories. With an international membership, the OHA serves a broad and diverse audience. Local historians, librarians and archivists, students, journalists, teachers, and academic scholars from many fields have found that the OHA provides both professional guidance and collegial environment for sharing information.
Library of Congress Veteran's History Project collects and preserves audio and video taped interviews with veterans of all eras. The Women's Memorial Foundation is partnered with the Library of Congress and our interviews will be listed in the Library's National Registry, accompanied by a signed consent form, a biographical data sheet and a tape log.
