Memorial to Women Veterans Unveiled in Connecticut
Connecticut’s women veterans have been honored with a memorial at the state capitol. Gov. M. Jodi Rell and other state leaders unveiled the memorial sculpture May 11 in the capitol’s Veterans Alcove. That area, located in a concourse between the Capitol and Legislative Office Building, houses flags and other memorials to veterans and military members who died in combat.
The three-dimensional sculpture is a replica of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, located on the Mall in Washington. In unveiling the memorial, Governor Rell noted women’s contributions to the defense of our nation since it’s beginning. Connecticut Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz reports the state has nearly 15,000 women veterans.
