The Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winner of the Sarah Marjorie Kelley Scholarship for Spring 2007. Air National Guard TSgt Karen A. (Kelley) Marshall was recently awarded the Kelley Scholarship. She is a graduate student at Webster University, a St. Louis, MO, based college with satellite campuses worldwide.

Completion of her master’s degree is a dream come true for the Virginia native. Not only will TSgt Marshall be the first member of her immediate family to earn a master’s degree, but it may also help her achieve one of her military dreams–to join the officer ranks. She said finishing her master’s degree “is the last step in a long-term dream to earn my degree. Being awarded the Memorial scholarship means the completion of great success to me.”

Currently serving on active duty with the Virginia Air National Guard (VA ANG) at the National Guard Bureau Headquarters in Arlington, VA, TSgt Marshall is finishing her Master of Arts Degree in Management and Leadership and will graduate with honors in May 2007. Studying a wide range of managerial topics including organizational behavior, economic analysis and managerial leadership, she has successfully balanced her educational goals while working as an Information Management Specialist.

“She is an excellent example of the Air Force Core Values of Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do,” said Air Force SMSgt Lester Enoch, Actions Group Superintendent, who recommended TSgt Marshall for the scholarship competition.

TSgt Marshall has been in the VA ANG for nine years and her military decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. In addition to her Guard duties and her coursework, she also finds time for others. She volunteers at the Bolling AFB Chapel, in Washington, DC, and regularly participates in running events to benefit various cancer research foundations. She and her husband Dameon have two children.

Open to all military women and women veterans, the Sarah Marjorie Kelley Scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to women working to gain bachelor or master’s degrees. The Kelley scholarship is for those seeking degrees in technical disciplines like computer science, business and finance.
