The Women’s Memorial 2014 calendar, My Sisters’ Shoulders, is the 21st in the series of special edition Women’s Memorial calendars. Every year, the calendar showcases some aspect of our story. For 2014, we chose to highlight the rich legacy of service that has been passed from generation to generation of women who have served. Featuring some 120 images—more than 80 from members’ scrapbooks, photo albums and digital files—the calendar is truly a reflection of our service. It is a look back at where we’ve been; and for some of us more “seasoned” members, a journey into the future of women’s service.
In putting together the 2014 calendar, we emailed our members to ask for their help by submitting their photos of service—past and present—for consideration; and for those who were so inclined, to forward their thoughts about the history, heritage and legacy of women’s service. We had such a response, we created this special section of the website so we could feature at least one picture from everyone who submitted—some 280!
Many, many thanks to those of you who responded to our request for pictures and dialogue. Your support of the Foundation’s mission—to tell the story of women’s service—is greatly appreciated. We are thrilled with the calendar and this opportunity to showcase your service. The pictures are truly a “snapshot” of our history. We hope you enjoy looking at them as much as we enjoyed putting them together.
Photos are grouped by service and arranged in alphabetical order by the last name of the servicewoman. In addition, we've put together a special page featuring all of the inspiring quotes by our members, which were featured in the calendar.
