Revised WASP RSVP and Event Information

(Updated 03/2/10)

We informed you in our February 26 e-postcard that the Office of the Speaker of House had stopped accepting RSVPs for the March 10 WASP Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony due to the overwhelming response to the ceremony invitation. The decision had to be made to assure the safety and security of all attendees. In addition, the reception immediately following the ceremony had to be cancelled in order to use the space for overflow for ceremony guests.

This is an important update to our previous e-postcard and relates to a clarification of the current situation regarding RSVPs to the Speaker of the House. Please disregard any other information you may have received about this subject. As indicated earlier:

  • If you e-mailed or called in your RSVP before the Speaker's office stopped accepting RSVPs, your name and those of your guests are on the attendee listing and will be permitted to attend. If you added guests after RSVPs were closed, those guests are not on the attendee list and will not be permitted to attend.
  • The Speaker's office is no longer taking RSVPs except for WASP and one (1) guest. If you are a WASP and have been told when you contacted the Speaker's office that you cannot RSVP, please contact the Women's Memorial Foundation at 800-222-2294/703-533-1155 or wasp@womensmemorial.org. The Foundation has been authorized to take the reservation for the WASP and her guest and forward it for inclusion on the list of attendees. There are no other exceptions to this provision.
  • If you have been informed, either by recording or e-mail, when you contacted the Speaker's office, that RSVPs are no long being accepted, your name will not be included on the list of attendees and you will not be able to attend. (See the exception for WASP and one (1) guest above.)
  • If you are in possession of a ticket but did not RSVP before the Speaker's office stopped accepting RSVPs, you will be permitted to attend upon presentation of the ticket at the door. You are reminded that the ticket is nontransferable and your name will be checked against the listing of invitations that were sent. Please be aware that the ticket only admits one. You will not be permitted to bring guests.

If you have a change in plans as a result of this information, we would be most grateful if you would inform us in writing via e-mail at wasp@womensmemorial.org or fax to 703-931-4208. Where applicable, this will help us process reimbursement actions for those who have purchased bus passes. It will also be very helpful as we make adequate arrangements for those who will be attending. Please include the WASP's name in the correspondence and your contact information.

We are very, very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and your family. These circumstances are beyond our control.
