Above & Beyond: 100 Years of Women in Aviation
A Women's History Month Event

In celebration of Women's History Month 2003, Above & Beyond: 100 Years of Women in Aviation, a film by ArtReach-International, will have its world premiere screening March 11, 2003, at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial. This exceptional film spans the significant contributions of woman aviators from 1903 to the present and introduces viewers of all ages to the extraordinary feats of aviation including Katharine Wright (sister of the famed Wright Brothers) and Colonel Eileen Collins, the Space Shuttle’s first woman commander. The premiere, which will begin at 12 noon, is hosted by the United States Air Force Centennial of Flight Office in cooperation with the Women’s Memorial Foundation.

Above & Beyond: 100 Years of Women in Aviation is the second in a series of "brown bag" lunch programs hosted by the Women’s Memorial in celebration of Women’s History Month 2003. The programs are free and open to the public and each is scheduled from 12 noon to 1 PM. Guests are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch and a friend. Other Women's Memorial Women's History Month events include Battle Station Sick Bay: Navy Medicine in World War II, a discussion and book signing with author Jan Herman, on March 4; Quilts from the Heart, a program and personal tour of the quilts made around the world in response to the attack on the Pentagon, on March 18; and a discussion and book signing with Jean Ebbert and Marie-Beth Hall, authors of The First, The Few, The Forgotten - Navy and Marine Corps Women in World War I, on March 25. Additional presentations of Above & Beyond: 100 Years of Women in Aviation will be shown at 10 AM and 3 PM, daily during the month of March.

The Women’s Memorial, located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, is readily accessible by Metro (Blue Line) and paid parking is available.
