Blue Horizon
A Pearl Harbor Day Special Event

Blue Horizon, a film by ArtReach International and an all new look at America's first women military pilots, will debut at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial on December 7, 2003, at 2 PM. The event, which is the world premiere of the film, commemorates Pearl Harbor Day and marks the 61st anniversary of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, the date President Roosevelt declared would 'live in infamy.'

Showcasing the Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II, more commonly known as WASPs, this powerful documentary relates the experiences and adventures of these extraordinary members of America's 'greatest generation.' Some 1,000 of the WASPs, all civil service pilots, flew over 66 million miles in stateside missions as ferriers, test pilots and anti-aircraft artillery trainers. Veteran status was finally granted to them in 1977.

ArtReach International's last film, Above & Beyond: 100 Years of Women In Aviation, premiered at the Women's Memorial in March 2003. Since, the film has been playing at Centennial of Flight events across the country. Video Librarian magazine states Above & Beyond "feels like something you might expect from the Smithsonian Institution's Air and Space Museum . . . Its gung-ho spirit might be just the stuff to inspire high-school aged girls to go out and get their wings." Blue Horizon promises some of the same and more.

The film debut is free and open to the public. A reception will follow where guests can meet and greet some of the women whose experiences forged a new chapter of American history. Guests are encouraged to reserve a seat by calling 800.222.2294 or 703.533.1155.

The Women’s Memorial, located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, is accessible by METRO Blue line, Arlington Cemetery stop, and paid parking is available.
