USNS Comfort Quilt at
Women’s Memorial Veterans Day Observance

The annual Women’s Memorial Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m., November 11, 2004. The ceremony, one of three major observances in the nation’s capital, is free and open to the public and will include formal military honors, a keynote address, veterans’ remarks and a wreath laying. The centerpiece of the observance is the opening of a new exhibit titled The Comfort Quilt, which features the quilt made aboard the USNS Comfort during her 2003 deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. LT Paula Godes who deployed with the Comfort and was instrumental in the creation of the quilt will deliver the keynote.

The Women In Military Service For America Memorial is the nation’s only major memorial honoring all servicewomen, past, present and future. Featuring an exhibit gallery, theatre, Register of women who have served and a gift shop, the Memorial is open to the public, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.
