“WAR Through the Hole of a Donut”
|
|
| In commemoration of the American Red Cross’ 125th Anniversary, Kristin Gilpatrick, editor of the popular “The Hero Next Door” collection, will share excerpts from the series’ newest book “War Through the Hole of a Donut,” at the Women In Military Service For America Memorial, on Saturday, May 13 at 2:00 PM. Written by Angela Petesch, a World War II Red Cross worker and Chicago Tribune feature writer who passed away in 1999, “War Through the Hole of a Donut” tells the author’s story of her Red Cross Clubmobile days in the European Theater of Operation. The book also includes black and white photographs of Clubmobiles in action and the recipe for the Red Cross donuts that Petesch cooked up for American troops from 1943-45. The book talk is free and open to the public and Gilpatrick will be on hand for a book signing immediately following the event. Copies of “War Through the Hole of a Donut” will be available for sale at the Memorial Gift Shop. Those interested in attending should call 800-222-2294 or 703-533-1155 to reserve a seat or for more information. The Women’s Memorial, located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, is readily accessible by Metro (Blue Line) and paid parking is available. The Women In Military Service For America Memorial is the nation’s only major memorial honoring all servicewomen, past, present and future. Featuring an exhibit gallery, theatre, Register of women who have served and a gift shop, the Memorial is open to the public, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily. -30- |
