When Janey Comes Marching Home:
Portraits of Women Combat Veterans

A “Meet the Artists” reception for the Women In Military Service For America Memorial’s newest exhibition, When Janey Comes Marching Home: Portraits of Women Combat Veterans, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9, 2010, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Women’s Memorial, gateway, Arlington National Cemetery.

Free and open to the public, guests are invited to join author Laura Browder and photographer Sascha Pflaeging as they discuss their collaboration to create this very compelling exhibition about today’s women warriors. Refreshments will be served.

When Janey Comes Marching Home is a collection of 44 large-scale photographic portraits and accompanying oral history excerpts of servicewomen, all veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The exhibit is an intimate, personal introduction to some of today’s women who have donned military uniforms and gone to war.

To reserve a seat for the event, please call 703-533-1155 or e-mail hq@womensmemorial.org. More information about the exhibition can be found at our womensmemorial site.

The Women’s Memorial, the only major national memorial to tell the story of women’s service, is located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery and is readily accessible by Metro (Blue Line). Paid parking is available.

This exhibition and the accompanying publication were made possible by generous grants from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the College of Humanities and Sciences, Virginia Commonwealth University. The exhibition was organized by the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, where it premiered September 2008. The exhibition tour is administered by the Anderson Gallery, School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University, with additional support from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
