Memorial Day Ceremony at the Women's Memorial

The Women’s Memorial annual Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 4 p.m., May 28, 2007. The ceremony, one of the major Memorial Day programs in the nation’s capital, is free and open to the public and includes formal military honors, a keynote address and personal tributes to departed comrades. Members of the public are invited to join in the personal tribute segment of the program.
The public is also invited to visit the award-winning portrait exhibition, Faces of the Fallen: America’s Artists Honor America’s Heroes. The exhibit is a tribute to the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq and includes the portraits of the first 1,300 who died in those wars. Opening at the Women’s Memorial in March 2005 and held over numerous times, the exhibition’s last full day is June 11 at which time the exhibit will be dismantled and the portraits sent to each service member’s next-of-kin.

The Women In Military Service For America Memorial is the nation’s only major memorial honoring all servicewomen, past, present and future. Featuring an exhibit gallery, theater and Register of women who have served, the Memorial is open to the public, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily.
