The 16th annual Women’s Memorial Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m., Nov. 11, 2013. The ceremony, one of the major observances in the nation’s capital, is free and open to the public and will include formal military honors, a keynote address, veterans’ remarks, and a wreath laying.
Delivering this year’s keynote address is Ms. Susan Scanlan, President, Women’s Research & Education Institute and Chair, National Council of Women’s Organizations.
A long time advocate for military woman, she helped author the legislation admitting women to the military service academies and helped found the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues and its policy arm, the Women’s Research & Education Institute (WREI). Since 1990, WREI’s Women in the Military Project has provided information and policy analysis on issues important to military women and women veterans to government policy makers, scholars, the media and the general public. Five servicewomen, one from each military service, will join Ms. Scanlan, in paying tribute to the nation’s military veterans.
